Katie Hopkins was catapulted in to the public consciousness as a contestant on BBC One’s The Apprentice in 2006, competing for a £100,000 job working for Lord Alan Sugar.
She made it all the way to the business end of the series – but turned down a place in the grand final, citing a lack of childcare for her daughters.
She was known as the most outspoken contestant, and this trait has been amplified in the last few years, as she’s become a hate figure in the media for her controversial opinions.
Her career as a loudmouth begun in 2013, when she criticised names including Tyler and Chardonnay on ITV’s This Morning. She also voiced disapproval of parents choosing geographical locations as names for their kids – despite calling one of her daughters India.
Since then, she’s done the rounds giving her thoughts on everything from benefits culture to drug addiction. She sparked fury by tweeting about Scottish life expectancy figures in the wake of the Glasgow helicopter tragedy – and recently further irked the Scottish people by criticising them for sending England “Ebola bombs” when an aid worker struck with the deadly disease travelled south for treatment.
Katie has also been vocal on the ‘obesity crisis’ in the UK. Last year she gained four stone in an attempt to prove that it’s easy for fat people to lose weight, with cameras following her for a TLC documentary. My Fat Story went on to become the digital channel’s highest rating show to date.
Seven years after taking part in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Katie has now signed up for Celebrity Big Brother – although it’s not her first time in Britain’s most famous house, as she was a ‘guinea pig’ rehearsal contestant for Channel 4’s very first civilian series in 2000.
The 39-year-old says she’s got absolutely “nothing to prove” to viewers – indeed, she looks set to be as controversial as ever, as she says she’d hate to live with “any fat person”.
“That is quite a broad spectrum. I have no empathy for a fat person,” she claimed. “I hope there might be one person in there who is funny, clever, witty, well-read or who has spent a lifetime performing on the stage.”
Katie isn’t afraid to get in to a heated debate with her fellow housemates – but she’ll be picking and choosing them wisely. “There will be people trying to get their moment of telly by annoying me, so I will swat them away,” she smiles.
“But if you get some people who actually think what they’re saying and believe it, then sure, I’ll probably go for that.”
I think Katie Hopkins has been hurt very deeply in her past as she uses this arrogant feisty armour to protect herself. She has adopted the villain persona who insults and provokes arguments to deflect that she has feelings and does actually want to be liked as do most humans. This shows when cracks appear in this armour upon receipt of a compliment when she covers her flattered self with a silly voice/turns away/hides behind her hair or an oddly pulled facial expression and changes the subject very quickly. To show this flattery means something would to her make her vulnerable and therefore open to being hurt, something she has worked so hard to avoid hence the villain armour. Easier to attack and deflect onto others their failings in her eyes whether it be…your ginger, no job, your fat, your child has a chavy name, your dress sense, your…anything she can think of that will make the other person feel insecure. Attack first so the attention is on the victim and then any come back is met with rolling eyes or that patronizing raised eyebrow saying ‘I don’t care’ and it looks like it is just retaliation. A classic bullying nature of someone who wants the next person to feel they are not as good as her or is in some way or another failure. Is it her who is insecure? Is it her that feels she is not good enough? She portrays herself to be an intelligent woman when all she is displaying is playground bullying techniques and resorts to tearing someone down about the most trivial of details such as what they are wearing. Watching how she has voiced her opinions louder and louder whilst all the time checking with a strong woman like Michelle to back her up makes her look like a Michelle wannabe. She is a walking, talking oxymoron saying she is not interested in the beauty regimes other women adopt but has worn face masks with Michelle, tan with Katie P, catwalk poses with Alicia, and so obviously has boob envy. She contradicts herself constantly with her morals adapting them to fit with the females she feels are Alpha (mostly Michelle. She is like the little weedy bully who has the big boys behind them to protect her. Big Brother has not pulled her once on her bullying of Perez just because he has a large voice too and can stand up for himself doesn’t make it ok. Her only way of inflating herself is through aggressive verbal attacks and is portraying herself as a massive insecure bully who can only communicate on this level as she feels this is power and control and to show a gentle side would be weak. This shows when she criticises others for sitting on the fence or not having strong opinions and tries to goad other into being aggressive as then she can deal with that. That is her level ! If she does as she proclaims too loudly that she loves the great British public then let us educate her on what love is. It is about acceptance, tolerance and forgiveness and her seemingly disingenuous rants are like a bad politician scrabbling for votes.

I don’t think its that profound. I suspect that the first time she said something contriversial on television it was picked up on in the press etc., which put her in the limelight. She enjoyed this and consequently she has decided to make a very lucrative career out of it. It is her ‘brand’ now and she has to continue along these lines or her column and career is over, simple as that.
Katie Hopkins… A foul mouthed, two faced, insecure woman who makes people feel bad to mask her own securities. She has a cheek to tell Perez the brittish public are her people.. Let’s be real the people she is talking about are the skinny, un-tattooed, people without names like Tyler and names of countries. Oh and cross the Scottish out of her people as well, think she will be left with about 10% of the population. Such childish behaviour coming from someone who basically dictates to people what they should be, it’s ridiculas! She obviously has her own demons and she wouldn’t be able to say anything to anyone in that house without a bit of back up. I can’t stand the woman. If she wins this competition most of the voters must be seeing something I’m not. She won’t be friends with barely anyone when she gets out. She wouldn’t look at someone twice out of there. She has no heart.

Hate Hopkins. Cruel nasty spiteful mouth. She is as ugly inside as she is outside. Puts her BIG nose into everything and stirs things up. Never saw a woman so flat ! sure she is a woman? Acts more like a man ! Her kids are not treated like children, but extensions of her who must be controlled , like the BB housemates. Never thought I could dislike someone so much. I could ignore her comments in newspaper ( BTW, why in the world give her space in paper ? Who is she ?????) but on show, she takes precedence over all. wish others would wake up and realize she is trying to dominate them . why is she never told off for her bullying ? And boy, is she a bully !!! Why does BB allow her to continue to bully ???? GET Hopkins OUT !!! give the others a chance to shine.

It’s very interesting how she’s never been warned by BBS over her vile verbal abuse towards some of the HMs. The last time we were saying this was last year with Helen Wood so it looks as though BB have the same game plan for the chosen one.
I like Katie Hopkins – there I have said it! I like that she speaks her mind, I quite often agree with her – that does not make either of us bad people. Please don’t drag her children into this forum – they have done nothing wrong. I like the fact that she is still natural – and has not gone under the surgeons knife to make her nose smaller, or boobs bigger. I like the fact that she is trying to be girly in the house by trying to find common ground with Katie P, Cami and Michelle – all the types of people she has written about and ridiculed in the past. Mostly I like the fact that she is a great opponent for Perez – because without her in there it really would be The Perez Show, and he is as rude and opinionated as Katie H – but he delivers his opinions in a far more malicious manner – eg why not just tell all of them together what he saw whilst locked in the room, was it really necessary to take individuals off for private chats – only if he was going to embellish and lie.

Ahmm let me see..sociopath springs to mind!? She personality displays some sociopathic characteristics as far as I can determine. She lacks compassion, understanding & empathy. As far as I’m concerned she has no real journalistic skill (slagging the British public is not journalism) hence the reason why she’s got a column in the trashiest newspaper in Britain….cannot get a job elsewhere, which I am not surprised about. I’ve never read her column nor will ever read it. This woman should not win BB…it will be a mockery.
Ironically by writing about her and slating her off we are all inadvertently fueling her career, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
I’m slowly having to admit that she is probably going to win this show but what I’d like to know is when did decency go out of fashion?
If she is the kind of person who wins the publics admiration, the kind of person they want as a roll model for themselves and their kids then I give up.
If she win after Helen Wood winning last year we can well and truly say the show has ‘gone to the dogs’
I don’t think its ‘in the bag’ yet, a lot of viewers may be keeping her in for entertainment value but not particularly wanting her to win, same goes for Perez.
I have enjoyed watching Perez but would like Keith to win, we haven’t seen much of him but he is so lovely and giggly without a bad bone in his body. Also he hasn’t been playing a game to win, he’s just been himself, but not had enough air time unfortunately.

My favourite moment is when Keith outclassed Katie in argument through sensible loigc – it left her agog.

The Devil must have made you a great deal to sell your soul and integrity for an over-extended 15 minutes of fame. There’s playing the game to win and there’s playing the game at whatever cost to win. What a perfect pulpit – stage – stadium you have been provided here with. It makes complete sense that you use words that reflect how you regard this house as being under ‘your’ control – almost as if you were conducting your own personal war. What a magnificent general you would have made – perhaps in the time of Machiavelli.

Katie Hopwitch is a glorified troll. Simple. No skills in anything. She thrives on negativity and anyone who disagrees is calmy dismissed and laughed at. She is an arrogant, two faced, attention seeking troll and has been since BB1 when she took part in the practice run of the show.
and of course she is being well edited by BB thanks to her connections and the fact her husband works for them.
