Abz Love was a member of the famous 90’s boy band 5ive. They sold almost 20 million records around the world. At an early age, Abz was singing and was accepted into the Italia Conti stage school and started auditioning aged 15. His teacher at Italia Conti suggested he audition for a boy band that was being put together by Simon Cowell. Abz was 17 when he joined 5ive.

5ive was put together in 1997. The boys were handpicked from 3,000 hopefuls at an audition. The band’s self-titled debut album debuted at number 1 in the UK chart in June. They returned to the UK charts in July 1999 with the number 2 single, ‘If Ya Gettin’ Down’, and finally achieved the top slot in October with ‘Keep On Movin’. The following July they topped the UK singles chart with an energetic cover version of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’. 5ive’s third album was premiered by August 2001’s chart-topping single, ‘Let’s Dance’. The band split up in 2001.

About a year after the breakup, Abz enjoyed a brief but successful solo career, releasing the album Abstract Theory in 2003, which produced three top 10 singles in the UK. Abz has admitted he had thrown all his money away on a champagne and drug lifestyle: “I had weed hanging out of my mouth and cocaine all over me. I had 25 watches to choose from, I had so many diamonds rolling around my wrist that you couldn’t even tell what the time was. It was pathetic.”

In 2007, only eight months after reforming the band and having failed to secure a lucrative enough record deal, 5ive announced that they would no longer be pursuing a comeback.

However, in 2013, they did once again reunite – albeit with only four members – for ITV2 reality show The Big Reunion, which followed a number of formerly popular groups as they took to the stage once more. The show was so successful that the bands involved went on joined UK arena tour, and 5ive are now set to embark on a new UK tour of their own in November.

Abz has now found love; he credits his girlfriend Vicky for saving his life: “I had therapy for a bit but it didn’t really work,” he said. “The only way I got through it was because of my girlfriend. She gave me a reason to live. Every day is a bonus now. I thought I knew it all and I was wrapped up in a superficial world – but she’s shown me there’s more to life.”

Best moves by a mile in the dance task yesterday, really cool. White men who talk like they’re from the ghetto is a pet peeve of mine. Apart from that I like him, chilled out peaceful guy

I really wish we could see more of ABZ during this series. He seems to be a very good person who doesn’t want to get mixed up with all the crap that is happening in the house. I really like the way he just goes about his time in the house just being himself. I hope he can take this series out but he does need more airtime.

Beginning to think he went in for no other reason than the paycheck. Would rather be at home smokin a jazz cigarette. Easy now!!!

Yah, at the beginning I didn’t like him..but seems to be one of the more mature ppl in the house that can’t be bothered with stupid drinking games.

    @Bear
    I don’t think it’s a Turkish accent.

I have a couple of Turkish/half Turkish friends from North London and they speak in the exact same way. You can’t knock someone because they speak like the people around them.

So nice to see ABZ getting some airtime. It’s a pity Dustin and Bruce were evicted because of the genuinely lovely relationship they had with ABZ. Here are two men, Dustin and ABZ, who have been at the very top of their respective careers making quite a lot of money, and had a very hard fall from the limelight. They dont whinge about it, bitch about it, they just get on with it. I loved the way they seemed to bing a real sense of perspective to the house while still having fun. I hope that the remaining REALLY NICE guy doesn’t finish last here. I wonder what Dustin ment when he said ABZ had a very touching reason to want to win. This is why ABZ needs more air time. PLEASE BB give him sometime on air to shine. It seems to be the carol and Lauren show both of whom are a bloody disgrace in their own way and l Can’t stand either of them.
    ABZ to win, hopefully!!!!!!!!

Donna Graham I am totally with you, Charlotte is an awful person, Abz comes across as genuine, sweet, look at the close ups on his face when he speaks to Lauren, he is the only housemate that genuinely doesn’t look at her like she is a freak, Courtney is using her, everyone else looks at her odd. I think Abz is so sweet, genuine and non judgemental, handsome too, he may think his girlfriend has saved his life but I hope ( and an sure she does) know what a good bloke she has in him . Nothing wrong in being quiet, much much better than mouthy and egocentric like Charlotte. Much love beautiful Abz x

@Yogi Yogi – having Asperger’s doesn’t necessarily mean you have behavioural problems, nor is it a stupid health problem that will straighten itself out!!
It’s his difficulty with social interaction which appears to be quite definitive of his diagnosis. He probably has other signs we don’t see too as he doesn’t get much air time :(! Abz is really genuine, great guy!

My son has Aspergers/Autism and I know he would act pretty much the same as Abz if he were in the house. They do find it harder to socialize until they become completely comfortable with their company/surroundings. Even then, they do need to have their own space. Considering Abz has Aspergers he is doing incredibly well to cope as he is within the house. Also people with Aspergers/Austism are very true to themselves and he would find it even harder to keep up an act for this amount of time than the average Jo Bloggs.
Also, in 1999 I had the pleasure of meeting Abz and the rest of 5ive and I can tell you that Abz has always spoken with that accent and is not putting it on. I hope he goes on to win this
