Abz Love was a member of the famous 90’s boy band 5ive. They sold almost 20 million records around the world. At an early age, Abz was singing and was accepted into the Italia Conti stage school and started auditioning aged 15. His teacher at Italia Conti suggested he audition for a boy band that was being put together by Simon Cowell. Abz was 17 when he joined 5ive.
5ive was put together in 1997. The boys were handpicked from 3,000 hopefuls at an audition. The band’s self-titled debut album debuted at number 1 in the UK chart in June. They returned to the UK charts in July 1999 with the number 2 single, ‘If Ya Gettin’ Down’, and finally achieved the top slot in October with ‘Keep On Movin’. The following July they topped the UK singles chart with an energetic cover version of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’. 5ive’s third album was premiered by August 2001’s chart-topping single, ‘Let’s Dance’. The band split up in 2001.
About a year after the breakup, Abz enjoyed a brief but successful solo career, releasing the album Abstract Theory in 2003, which produced three top 10 singles in the UK. Abz has admitted he had thrown all his money away on a champagne and drug lifestyle: “I had weed hanging out of my mouth and cocaine all over me. I had 25 watches to choose from, I had so many diamonds rolling around my wrist that you couldn’t even tell what the time was. It was pathetic.”
In 2007, only eight months after reforming the band and having failed to secure a lucrative enough record deal, 5ive announced that they would no longer be pursuing a comeback.
However, in 2013, they did once again reunite – albeit with only four members – for ITV2 reality show The Big Reunion, which followed a number of formerly popular groups as they took to the stage once more. The show was so successful that the bands involved went on joined UK arena tour, and 5ive are now set to embark on a new UK tour of their own in November.
Abz has now found love; he credits his girlfriend Vicky for saving his life: “I had therapy for a bit but it didn’t really work,” he said. “The only way I got through it was because of my girlfriend. She gave me a reason to live. Every day is a bonus now. I thought I knew it all and I was wrapped up in a superficial world – but she’s shown me there’s more to life.”

He puts that voice on very very irritating if he spoke normally he would be alright If my son spoke like that I would disown him! Lol
He seems like a nice chap, perhaps he speaks as he does to fit in with his peer group.
British white guys immitating hood/ghetto speak is a strange/ludicrous phenomenon. Why are they never pulled up on it. Do they think it’s cool? Abs is 34 for christ sake not 15. Obviously going through
an identity crisis. Am I the only one who finds it laughably embarrassing.
Just heard Abz saying he has Aspergers which makes sence he’s not weird my son is 13 yrs old he has Aspergers,autism & dyslexia hope this will bring positive awareness for people who have this condition & more help & understanding for them go Abz , Abzs to win !!!

He is from a posh white middle class family why does he speak that way? Hope one of them asks him! it’s so cringe, drop the accent and he would be alright!

Did 5ive write their own material or were they manufactured singing & dancing blokes. If abz isn’t a songwriter & can’t write his own material, Bar the odd 5ive re union show, can’t see what the future holds for him. Maybe an Ali G impersonator 😥

Abz was brought up in Hackney (hardly middle class) and has always spoken with an east London twang. Lovely, down to earth and true to himself. Abz to win.

Abz is not white British and where he’s from in London thats how people speak, he’s not anything but himself.

I think he was probably mis-diagnosed with that Aspergers. I’m not seeing any behaviour problem with this guy. He just keeps himself out of trouble, that’s all.
I think stupid doctors diagnose stupid health problems when these things eventually straighten themselves out.
So many in the house say he is a grounded nice guy. Why is being given so little airtime? Do we have to be fed boozing and negativity all the time? Are his qualities now frowned upon by BB ?

Abs is white British his mum is Irish and father is Turkish and he was raised in Enfield which is an affluent area of north London. It wasn’t till recently that he moved to east London and he went to stage school so hardly grew up in rough area! He does not speak with an east London twang let’s be honest he speaks like a Jamaican which I find to be rather bizarre and am intrigued to know why he has chosen to speak in that manner!
Oh yeah and his real name is Richard!
