Vicky Entwistle is an actress most famous for playing the role of loudmouth factory worker Janice Battersby in ITV soap Coronation Street.

Born in Lancashire at the age of 16, Vicky commuted to Blackpool to study drama while working nights at a local supermarket. For a time, she worked as a ‘bluecoat’ entertainer at Pontin’s in Devon before she was accepted on scholarship to attend Drama Centre London, from which she graduated in 1992.

When not acting, Vicky lived off the dole, but took part time jobs as a cleaner and helped out in her parents shop. Vicky then played Madonna freak Maxine Graham in Like A Virgin and was spotted by Granada Television casting director Judy Hayfield. She was offered the role of machinist Janice Lee in Coronation Street and made her debut on the 6th January 1997. She also starred in an episode of The Bill in 1997.

The following month, Vicky was told that she would become the mother of the street’s new family, the Battersbys, and was introduced to fellow actors Bruce Jones, Jane Danson and Georgia Taylor.

On the 2nd August 2010, it was announced that Vicky would leave the show after thirteen years. Bosses said she had “agonised” over her decision, but decided the show’s 50th anniversary year was the right time to say goodbye. Vicky said: “Corrie means so much to me and I could easily have continued to play Janice for the rest of my acting career. But I’ve been thinking of leaving for some time, and couldn’t deny those feelings. I’ve a hankering to do other drama projects and so if I don’t make this move now I never will.”

Having become known for being, in her words, “the fat ugly one from Corrie”, Vicky lost over three stone and ended up keeping two-and-a-half stone off, transforming from a size 16 to a 6. She later released an exercise self-help DVD, Vicky’s WOW! Weight Off Workout, in 2006.

Since leaving the Street, Vicky has found work on the stage. She starred as the Wicked Queen in Blackpool’s 2011 production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and in 2012 toured award-winning show Funny Peculiar. From January 2013, she has been playing the role of Madame Thénardier in Les Miserables on the West End.

Comes from the same part of Lancashire as AJ off bbbots & it is my opinion, that their accent is the most annoying, backward, fingernails down a blackboard accent ever. Like something from a Dickens novel

What a shocking drunk is our Vicky. All the ranting and raving of a mad woman to the camera when she is by herself is getting way over the top and makes her look like an complete idiot and shes so venomous with the things she comes out with. Her condesending manner towards the younger people in the house, who are adults too, is incredible. Vicky seems to be a VERY unhappy person inside and extremely bitter that her career is not as good as some of her peers she studied with and No wonder her career is at a stand still when you behave in such a disgraceful manner and drink like a fish, come to think of it the bitterness really shows on her somewhat sour face and it has aged her beyond her years. l am super suprised she is only 44 years old she look at leat 10 years older but that all the hard drinking and constant smoking. The way she spoke about her husband wanting to renew their vows was truly terrible and l think her husband would have been very upset about the comments that she thinks its stupid and a waste of time, even that was said in such a terribly nasty manner.
Vicky took a very beautiful gesture from an obviously loving partner and made it into a horrible joke. I think she has a extremely serious problem with alcohol, maybe l would even say as far as being an alcoholic. She’s a chain smoker and shockingly nasty drunk. What anyone sees in her l could not imagine. This mirror have 2 very distinct faces and neither are that pretty.

Charlotte is a disgusting animal, however vicky was rude and condescending (is?). When Charlotte was talking to someone else and said she, whilst referring to vicky it was just pathetic to see vicky saying “she?”. Shes not talking to you vicky you idiot.

I’ve just watched the series, cannot believe what a passive-aggressive maniac this woman is. She has to go out into the garden and drunkenly rant about people and hurl insults that have nothing to do with the actual argument that she had with them. To refer to someone as a ‘fat geordie slag’ is pathetic. Considering she used to refer to herself as ‘the fat ugly one from corrie’ and then went on to lose weight, I think it’s disgusting that she made reference to another woman’s weight – especially as Charlotte has an absolutely stunning figure. I am also disgusted that one woman would refer to another as a slag.
At 45 she thinks she deserves respect from people that are younger than her. Well, respect is earned, not demanded, and talking about someone in that way is just not going to earn you any.
What a sad sad bitter old woman. Hope she enjoyed Corrie for all those years because I think that was the height of her career. Not that it seems she was a particularly talented actress – she just played her own miserable self I think!
