35 year old Claire is best known as a star of 90s pop group, Steps. Following a brief stint in girl band TSD she joined Steps at the age of 19 and the band went on to receive record sales of over 20 million. Famed for their dance routines as well as their catchy pop tunes, Steps were constantly topping the charts, won countless awards and sold out tours all over the world. After the Beatles, they were the most successful British pop group ever. Following the band’s split in 2001, Claire briefly joined forces with ex-bandmate ‘H’ to form a duo act which saw them singing together as well as presenting kids’ TV shows Steps to the Stars and SM:TV Live.
As well as making headlines for her singing success, Claire’s personal life has been under much media scrutiny. Whilst in the band, Claire embarked on an affair with her publicity manager, Reece, despite him being in a long-term relationship with a baby on the way. Of this time, Claire admits: ‘I still feel the shame of it every day but I was only 20 and probably too young and selfish to appreciate the impact this could have had. The guilt of what I was doing to another woman, even though they weren’t happy, was killing me.’
Claire married backing dancer Mark a few years later but admits that she didn’t want to go through with it: “I didn’t enjoy myself on our wedding day at all,” she says. She subsequently cheated on Mark with Dane Bowers (who was in a relationship with Katie Price at the time) and broke off their marriage after 18 months. Claire married ‘love of her life’ Reece in 2008 and they have two children together.
Following Steps’ split, Claire has spoken about her struggle with depression and after battling with eating disorders to stay thin throughout her time in the band, Claire found comfort in eating: “From the age of 17 to 25, I was in the music industry and had someone to organise my life. Then it stopped. I ended up sitting around wasting time and getting fat.” Claire’s weight has been a big talking point and she appeared on our television screens once again in BBC documentary Claire Richards: My Big Fat Wedding. Following the documentary, Claire released a best-selling fitness DVD.
In recent years, Claire has been back on our TV screens in Popstar to Operastar, Slave to Food, Celebrity Masterchef and Steps Reunion which followed the iconic pop group making their comeback after a decade. Following this, Steps reformed and were back at the top of the UK album charts and an ultimate UK tour. Of the reunion, Claire says: ‘At some points it’s been a bit weird, but most of the time it’s like no time has gone by at all, which is weird given that we’ve been apart longer than we were together. We’ve all grown up, had babies, got married, got divorced… and got married again!’ Of her weight struggles, Claire has said: ‘It’s not going to rule my life anymore.’

I only just saw monday’s episode because I live in China – yeah, Claire involved her kids by not being at home — that’s not Speidi’s fault. And the faces Trish and Claire pulled when Spencer wouldn’t say hello in the morning- seconds after Claire was criticising them behind their backs too :doh:

If they were in prison or trapped in some other way, then that letter thing would be a very different situation indeed. But THEY’RE NOT! Claire is free to go home and cuddle her kids and read a copy or draft version of the letter AT ANY TIME SHE WANTS… :doh:

Well all I can say is Claire should have never entered this show if she felt no contact with her kids was something she just couldn’t cope with. She KNEW all that she was signing up for in her contract before even going in. If being away from your children for three weeks is gonna end up being completely out of the question, then she should have just put them first before a gameshow! But oh no she couldn’t do that could she? Too much bloody money in her fat pay cheque involved. Makes me fuc*ing sick so she does. It’s so blatantly obvious towards the end of the show she deliberately reacted in such a meltdown just to gain some extra sympathy votes all to try & steer ahead of Speidi, she knew how much of a major threat they were & once again she & Rylan & Tricia all manipulated the situation to make Speidi look the big cruel villains, as per usual.
They knew FULL well Speidi were inseperable & should have respected the fact their own marriage vows had much more importance & meaning in their lives than someone’s letter from home who they weren’t exactly best of pals with, took part in socially making them outcasts of the group by joining in on the gossip & they didn’t see eye to eye at all. So why would Speidi have the urge to sacrafice their time together for someone who didn’t try to make their experience in their easier & instead joined in to make it all the more tougher for them. She took great pleasure in doing it as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was also partly payback for the way Claire judged their suitability as potential parents & also saying secretly in such an obvious discriminative, presumptious & ignorant way that they wouldn’t have any chance of winning as that’s always what happens with hugely entertaining american celebs, they get to the final but the public don’t let them claim the crown. That’s exactly what she said to Tricia. Not once did she pluck up the guts to share this with them when discussing how thrilled they all were at the prospect of going to the final eh? Typical brit, takes the non confrontational way out. Sorry Claire but you deserved to lose that letter! Your emotional meltdown performance in the diary room made me feel ballistic & annoyed instead of empathy & sympathy. You’ll know by everything I’ve mentioned about the whole situation what lead to that.
Oh & Tricia also put them bottom of the list in that challenge thinking the celebrity who she thought least needed to hear from family would be the first to lose their letter & deliberately put her closest friend’s Claire so that her letter would have zero chance of being destroyed. So no wonder Speidi refused to take part, that was probably the other part of why they refused too & I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the exact same thing as they did because I definately would have if someone tactfully tried to have my letter taken away from family. So it was perfectly ok for Tricia to try & make sure Speidi would defo not get their letter, but it wasn’t ok for them to deliberately have Tricia’s best girlfriend’s letter taken away? Oh & did you also hear what Claire said to Rylan when he was shaving half his beard off, oh you should have just refused, I would have been fine with you saying know, it doesn’t matter. Oh right then, so the same should have applied to Speidi if they felt uncomfortable with what they had to do then. Nah didn’t quite turn out like that did it? Ha, exactly. I rest my fuc*ing case on that note.
