CBS has announced that the first Celebrity edition of Big Brother USA will premiere on Wednesday 7th February 2018, running for around two and a half weeks during the Winter Olympics.

Yesterday the broadcaster released the full schedule for the special season’s “concentrated” run, which features a total of thirteen episodes, beginning with an hour-long premiere on the 7th.

New episodes will air on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th February, before the show continues on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for two weeks.

An extra instalment will be shown  on Saturday 24th February ahead of the bumper two-hour finale on Sunday 25th February.

All episodes air at 8.00pm ET/PT, and all Friday episodes are two hours long.

As previously stated, the staple 24-hour live feeds are also back, while spin-off After Dark will go out nightly on CBS’s sister network Pop.

Bosses have confirmed that the show will retain its usual format, with houseguests competing in Head of Household and Power of Veto competitions. However, it is currently unclear when these will take place, or which episodes will feature the live evictions.

CBS appears to have strategically scheduled Big Brother as counter-programming to the 2018 Winter Olympics, which air on rival network NBC between Friday 9th and Sunday 25th February.

Fans were surprised when the special celebrity edition was announced by host Julie Chen during the last regular season in September.

It will be the first celebrity spin-off in Big Brother USA’s eighteen-year history, and only the third season to air outside the show’s traditional summer schedule.

BBUSA’s celebrity edition is expected to begin at around the same time as the new series of Celebrity Big Brother UK ends. The last three winter series of CBBUK have all ended in the first week of February.

And most importantly it’ll be out of the way for BB Canada to begin in early March.

I would guess they’ll do evictions on Mondays and Fridays, with each Friday being a double. Probably 10 HMs in total.

Well for CBS Big Brother tends to work well during the Summer Olympics. Usually during the summer the show dips between 5-6 million viewers but is able to maintain a 2.0 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic.

It makes sense that CBS has scheduled CBB during this time period because it aligns with Nielsen’s “Sweeps” which is Feb. 1 – Feb. 28 this winter. They don’t have to risk airing new episodes of their scripted programming and if everything works as planned for CBS this will allow them to remain competitive in the Adults 18-34 & Adults 18-49 demographics just like the summer seasons that air opposite of Summer Olympics.

So if the ratings are decent (around 5 million live) and increase when DVR ratings are added in we may see more CBB during Winter Olympics as long as the celebs are not wanting a fortune to enter the House.

The only episode I’m expecting to rate poorly is the Saturday Feb. 24th episode. That’s due to Saturdays being the least viewed day in US primetime and it will probably be a “look back” clip episode anyway.

As for evictions I think they will be Wednesdays & Fridays. The 2 Hour episodes will allow for them to get an eviction out of the way and crown a new HoH with Sundays being Nominations and Monday being Power of Veto.

Airing once every four years wouldn’t be a bad thing.
