Retired Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas has taken third place in the Celebrity Big Brother 2012 final, it has been announced.
Despite his respectable result, Gareth – who only recieved one nomination throught the entire series – told host Brian Dowling that his real achievement was not being voted for by his fellow housemates.
“I just tried to get on with everyone, I tried to be myself with everyone,” he said. “I didn’t try for people to like me, I just tried to like them, and if they like me back than I’m happy about that.
“I’m a team player, I don’t like to do things on my own, I don’t like individual, I’m a team man. Being in there, if you’re not a team man you get found out.”
Host Brian Dowling asked how he felt when the ‘Big In Japan’ task was revealed as a hoax. “Do you know, I was devastated! I’d given everything to it! I dressed up as sushi and danced!
“In the house it’s all about having fun, and you need to be able to laugh at yourself, by doing stuff like that. I’d probably do that if the boys asked me to do it. I’m proud I managed to dress up as sushi and dance!”
Asked what the hardest thing about Big Brother was, Gareth said: “I’m an active person, I like to go out, I like to walk, so the downtime, and a lot of people getting bored, and then bringing up issues that could turn in to bigger issues than they’d be in the outside world.”
He added: “There were two people in that house that were rocks to me, Nicola and Natalie. They looked after me, they knew how much I missed my mother in there.”
