New Celebrity Big Brother 2018 housemate Rachel Johnson has claimed the new series was due to be named ‘Big Sister’ in honour of its all-female launch twist – although Channel 5 has now given it the title ‘Year Of The Woman’.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that, in a twist to mark 100 years since women first won the right to vote, January’s Celebrity Big Brother will begin with an exclusively female line-up, before men arrive at a later stage.

Today, Channel 5 officially announced the first of the female housemates as journalist Rachel Johnson, the sister of infamous politician Boris Johnson.

Prior to C5’s announcement, Rachel had revealed the news herself in a column for today’s issue of the Mail on Sunday, titled ‘Yes, I am doing Big Brother’.

In the article, she revealed it was the twist that convinced her to sign up – and claimed bosses intended to rename the show ‘Big Sister’, at least temporarily.

“I am a firm believer that you only regret the things in life you don’t do, not the things you do do,” she wrote.

“I’ve never sat down and watched CBB in the way my children religiously binge-watch it, but when Channel 5 came calling, I didn’t delete the annual email asking me to be on.

“It was because this one said that the new series was all about female empowerment and 100 years since women got the vote. It was going to be called Big Sister.”

Instead, it now appears the new series will be referred to as ‘Celebrity Big Brother: Year Of The Woman’.

C5 used this name for the first time today in a press release confirming Rachel’s involvement. However, it is unclear whether it is just a promotional title, or whether it will be featured on the show.

It is possible the ‘Big Sister’ name was scrapped when men were invited to take part. An October report claimed that producers abandoned a plan to have only female housemates for the entire series after struggling to sign enough women.

Celebrity Big Brother returns to our screens on Tuesday 2nd January at 9.00pm.
