Celebrity Big Brother 2018 bosses are reportedly considering scrapping plans for an all-female series after several women, including Janet Street-Porter, turned down big money offers.

Recently it was rumoured that the upcoming January run would feature female housemates exclusively, as part of Channel 5’s plans for a special season of programming marking 100 years since women won the right to vote.

‘Classier’ personalities were reportedly being targeted, rather than the model and reality star types typically associated with the show.

However, The Sun claims that producers are struggling to sign celebs to take part. Loose Women regular Janet Street-Porter is the latest name said to have rejected an offer, following businesswoman Baroness Michelle Mone.

The newspaper’s source said: “Bosses are really starting to panic. At this stage of the year, they would have made a few major signings for the next series, but everyone is turning them down.

“The kind of serious, politically minded women they have been targeting have got absolutely no interest in coming on.”

With the future of Big Brother UK said to be in jeopardy following a year of dismal ratings, it appears the gender twist could now be ditched in order to get the best possible housemate line-up.

“As it stands they have got real problems and they might even have to completely scrap their plans if they are going to sign up enough strong characters,” the source continued.

“The show is already under threat, with talk that Channel Five might ditch it, so the last thing they need is a weak line up come January.”

In August, Channel 5 boss Ben Frow publicly admitted that he would be “much happier with a channel that did not have Big Brother on it”.

Celebrity Big Brother’s 21st series will hit our screens in the New Year.
