Says move was in 'poor taste' - despite apparently agreeing to on-camera interview

Celebrity Big Brother 2016 - Angie Bowie reacts after finding out about David Bowie's death

Angie Bowie has hit out at Celebrity Big Brother 2016 producers for filming her reaction to David Bowie’s death – despite her agent previously saying that she consented for them to do so.

The 66-year-old’s superstar ex-husband passed away during the show last month, with bosses informing her in an off-camera meeting – but she chose to remain in the house, and was shown weeping in the Diary Room as fellow housemates David Gest and John Partridge comforted her.

The scenes divided opinion among viewers, prompting scores of complaints to Ofcom – although the TV watchdog threw them out last month as they didn’t raise issues requiring investigation.

And it seems Angie isn’t happy with how the situation was handled, as she told Australian talk show Studio 10 today: “I don’t appreciate being held up as I was and being forced to share my grief with their camera. I found it rude, intrusive and extremely poor taste.”

Despite this, she insisted she isn’t upset with CBB’s producers. “That’s the format of their show. Once they were told by Channel 5 that they needed to go ahead and tell me, they went ahead and did it in their normal way,” she continued.

“I’m not saying that they didn’t have the contractual right to do that, but it didn’t say ‘and in case someone dies really close to you, we’re gonna stick a camera in your face, and you’re gonna cry on-screen and tell us all about it’.”

However, Angie’s comments contradict those of her agent Ray Santilli, who entered the house to break the news to her in person. In a BBC Radio 5 Live interview last month, he said that Angie personally agreed to an on-camera interview.

“She had plenty of time to consider her position. She made the decision to go back in to the house, she made the decision to be interviewed afterwards,” he commented.

“Channel 5, I have to say, have been magnificent. They left it entirely up to her to make the decision, she had no pressure from either myself, or from Channel 5, or Endemol, or any of the producers.”

Angie eventually quit the show two weeks in after complaining of illness and a lack of sleep.
