Channel 5 has confirmed that a portion of votes cast for Scotty Timlin to win Celebrity Big Brother 2016 were disqualified amid controversy over his fellow Geordie Shore star Gaz Beadle’s Snapchat trick.

Bosses had to intervene yesterday when Gaz duped his Snapchat followers in to calling a number he said would connect to him personally “in the GShore house” – when they were in fact calling the premium rate line that cast a vote for Scotty to win CBB.

The broadcaster asked anyone who called the number as a result to contact its customer services team – and at the start of tonight’s live final, host Emma Willis updated viewers on the situation.

“You may be aware that yesterday Big Brother had to ask for the removal of a Snapchat post which may have led some people to unwittingly phone Scotty T’s vote line,” she stated.

“Just to reassure you, vote results are verified and independently audited, and any votes confirmed to have been cast in error have been disqualified.”

Although that the voting terms and conditions state that Channel 5 can “disallow votes if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent votes have been cast”, it is rare for for Big Brother chiefs to publicly announce that public votes have been nullified.

It is likely they did so this time in a bid to minimise accusations of fixing, as Channel 5 has been a sister network of Geordie Shore broadcaster MTV since it was bought by Viacom in 2014.

They disqualified votes did little to affect the result, as Scotty was later crowned the winner of the series, beating rival Stephanie Davis. Channel 5 has since released a full percentage breakdown of the vote to win, revealing that the party boy had a 36.32% share.

Difficult to quantify but really hope they don’t refund – the idiots that fell for it deserve to pay the idiot tax.

As for Gaz – I suspect Viacom will punish him by offering him tens of thousands to be in the house in the summer.
