Celebrity Big Brother summer 2015 UK vs. USA launch show - Tila Tequila

Channel 5 will be forced to pay Tila Tequila her £100,000 fee for Celebrity Big Brother: UK vs. USA despite removing her over her Nazi scandal – as she didn’t break the rules in the house.

Tila was booted out by bosses less than 24 hours after the series begun in August after it emerged that she had expressed pro-Nazi views, having written a blog post entitled ‘Why I Sympathize with Hitler’ and released a photo of herself posing with a gun outside Auschwitz.

In a statement, C5 insisted it wasn’t aware of the 34-year-old’s views – which are noted on her Wikipedia page – before she entered and said they made her position in the house “untenable”.

However, according to The Daily Star, a contractual loophole means that bosses will have to stump up her £100,000 ($148,000) fee – slightly less than the previously reported $175,000 – as her ejection was not the result of a rule break on the show.

A source explained: “Channel 5 has tried to get the money back, but can’t because on paper it’s her money. Technically she didn’t break any rules in the house, so she hasn’t voided her contract.

“It’s very controversial, given Tila’s comments. Viewers will think she went home empty-handed.”

At the time it was claimed that Tila, real name Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen, planned to sue the broadcaster, believing she’d been used as a publicity stunt.

Jonathan Sacerdoti, spokesperson for the Campaign Against Antisemitism – which first raised the red flag over Tila’s involvement – responded to the news by saying: “It is unfortunate that Channel 5 now has to pay a Hitler sympathiser a large sum under the terms of her contract.

“This should be a lesson to producers who make the mistake of casting an anti-Semite in their programmes.”

I thought it was common knowledge that she would be paid, it’s a similar situation to when Cheryl Cole was booted from The X Factor USA – she got her full pay. The same happened with Mel B on the first series of The X Factor before being replaced by Sharon Osbourne – she got her full pay.

You’re entitled to have the other party live up to their side of the contract unless you have breached it.

Mel B on the first series of The X Factor before Sharon Osborne – never heard that one before.

The common assumption for most of these reality shows is that celebrities won’t get paid if they leave the show via the back door. Indeed this was once true for Big Brother, but it doesn’t seem to be the case any more – and certainly in Tila’s case it was to be expected as it was due to Channel 5’s negligence (if we take their word at face value) that the controversy happened.

I don’t buy daily star’s claim. My guess is that she kept on pushing and pushing with her lawyer (remember, this was months ago), and Endemol didn’t have the time (aka, money) for a court date considering the new series, so they settled outside of court. But, feel free to correct me, insiders.

A surprise to me because I was personally ready to book a flight to the UK and sit in that court room to the hear the case myself (if it ever actually came to fruition.)
