You’re used to crowds…
How many people are going in then, 220? I am an entertainer so I am used to audiences. But I still get a buzz out of it and I know that some people are going to boo, some will cheer but that is the fun of it.

As an entertainer do you feel like you have to amuse people?
I think the key is not to force it or be jolly all the time. I’ll take it nice and easy. Hopefully I’ve got four weeks in there so I don’t want to do all of my jokes in the first week! I think the secret of this show is not to try too hard and be an honest representation of what you are. Of course I will try to make people laugh but that comes naturally with me anyway.

Do you think people will ask for impressions?
I never wanted to be just a mimic, but that is part of what I do. I love singing and acting and that is the kind of stuff I like to do. I don’t want to be known for one thing, I’m an all-round entertainer. But the way my belly is at the minute, I’m just all round!

Why do you want to enter the house?
It’s good for your profile and it is a great show. If can be scary at times. I watch with my children and we always laugh because the more car crash television it seems to be, the better. Hopefully I won’t get embroiled in many major arguments. I’m sure there will be sparks because they do put some outrageous folk in there. I’m pretty good at handling most people but who knows what lies ahead? It is going to be an adventure. It’s like a panto. You’ve got the good guy, the bad guy, the mad one, the sad one and you’ve got all the other people who make that lovely mixture and that is why Big Brother is one of the best shows on TV. I am so flattered that they asked me at my stage of life, that they think I’m still relevant enough to go into the Big Brother house.

We’ve seen people like Keith Chegwin and Jim Davidson do well because they’re well- loved national figures. Do you think you’ll have the same success?
I think I am reasonably liked. You can’t be loved by everybody because there are different tastes. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I won’t back down from my opinions but everyone is entitled to believe in what they believe in. I’m not an argumentative person but I won’t walk away from a discussion. You shouldn’t fall out over it because in the end it is only a game.

Will people see anything from you that they don’t expect?
I think people feel like they know me because I have been around for a long time and I am still around. People have an idea that Bobby Davro is, ‘That old- fashioned comedian’ because I haven’t been on television selling my wares as an entertainer for maybe ten years. People think I’m washed up but I have always remained contemporary. I still perform every week and I am very proud that I can entertain younger people, middle aged people and the older generation. There aren’t many entertainers who can actually do that and I am very proud of that. You can’t be liked by everyone, but as long as the majority like me then that is all that matters.

It’s UK v USA. Are you patriotic?
I am extremely patriotic. I am a great supporter of our armed forces and I go all over the world entertaining them. My father was an ex-British mile champion and he was in the 48 and 52 Olympics with Roger Bannister. He was a very respected person in his field back then and I am sort of following in his footsteps to represent Great Britain. I will be very nationalistic and I will want to win on behalf of Britain, but in the end it is only a game and it is fun. A bit of competition is always fun as long as you can take defeat or be humble in your success.

Do you think we should go easy on the Americans?
That is a very nice point. They are going to be a long way from their families and we have got to give them a bit of consideration in that sense, but we are all going to be away from our families. Neither of us are better off, we are both going to miss all of the things we are used to. Differences could be more pronounced for me because if I am trying to tell jokes, their sense of humour is vastly different to ours. I love the Brits sense of humour for the fact that we can laugh at ourselves. I don’t think the Americans, with the greatest respect, understand sarcasm. They love slapstick stuff, but I like that too.

What will you miss most?
Friends and family and my phone! All sorts could be happening and I would never know. I’m easy pickings for people who might want to have a go at me when I don’t have the chance to address it, but I will when I get out.

What would you like to get out of the experience?
I would just like people to like me and of course it is a good opportunity and me and I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to do something which has good exposure and that I can have fun with. I want to have fun because life is about having fun.

What are you not looking forward to?
I don’t like confrontation. I will stand my ground and it’s good to have a difference of opinion and we will have lots of that. Some people will be cleaner than others and some people will be drinking and others won’t so you just have to respect everyone’s way of life. Of course, when you’re under stress and starved of your home comforts it can change you. I just don’t want to be drawn into an argument. I want to make some friends. That would be nice.

Do you watch the show?
Yes. I tend to watch the ones when someone I know is in, so Jim Davidson is a mate of mine and I watched him and thought he did very well. Les Dennis is probably my best friend in show business and he didn’t quite cope with it. He wasn’t in the best of places but he is still a lovely fella. There are a few who you think, ‘I couldn’t bear to be around that person’ and I am sure there will be a few like that. I might be one of them!

Will you play jokes on your housemates?
I am a bit mischievous when I’m bored. I might chance my arm with the Brits first! If it works with them, I’ll try it on the Americans!

Have you had advice from friends who have been in the house?
Lots of advice. It’s not a game plan, it’s just to remind myself that I am on camera all the time and everyone can hear what I say. Bite my tongue and don’t get too drunk. I would hate to say something inappropriate. I wouldn’t do it purposely but something might slip out. I might do a joke that upsets some of the women, they might deem it sexist, but I will always say sorry if I’ve upset somebody.

Are you in it to win it?
Wouldn’t it be lovely? I don’t think anyone’s in it not to win it – that would be a lie. I would love to get through to the final, that would be enough for me, but I will just go in there and hope to do as well as I can.

Every time I see him I think they’ve brought back Jim Davidson in some kind of twist.

Sorry for saying this, but you have gone too far with young Farrah during the life nominations. Ok to explain that her behaviour is upsetting you, but to go on a long-winded insulting, repetitive monologue was too much! By trying to put the girl down, you showed no class nor intelligence!

This vile 24 year old woman has done the rounds of ALL the reality shows in the U.S, and unforunalety now here, including Dr Phil who was much harder on her, especially when it came to her drink driving, and lack of mothering to her child, and nothing seems to have penetrated her over blown ego. She should have been disciplined and taught respect a long time ago by her parents and when you give a 15 year old total control this is what you end up with, a self entitled, self obsessed, uneducated, irresponsible, ridiculously immature person who is ugly inside and out.
Quite frankly I don’t think Bobby went far enough.

This low rent fame hog of little intelligence, is willing to put herself in any situation, including a “sex tape” to get her face on television and in magazines.

A Repulsive young woman who could do with a few more hard lessons.

What a pity Bobby didn’t take his script writer with him when he went into the BB house. What a bore!!!

Sorry, but ‘Old School Light Entertainer’ Bobby is well past his sell by date. Listening to him just get to the end of a sentence is like pulling teeth. Had his moment putting Farrah in her place but still keeps going on about it. Wouldn’t be missed if he went on Friday. Panto beckons.

Bobby and Austin are the only ones who are being themselves, they are both being real, warts and all, but also entertaining.

Although I want Austin to win. It would mean the most to Bobby, he’d be so very grateful.
