Keith Chegwin is a TV legend, best known for hosting a string of entertainment programmes in the 1970s and 80s.
He begun his showbiz career as an actor, landing several roles in films, TV dramas and adverts. His biggest part came in 1971, when he was cast as Fleance in director Roman Polanski’s adaptation of MacBeth.
After a stint as a DJ working with Tony Blackburn at BBC Radio 1, Keith – nicknamed ‘Cheggers’ – became a household name fronting shows such as Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, Cheggers Plays Pop and Saturday Superstore. More recent presenting credits include The Big Breakfast and a seven-year run on GMTV.
Keith’s cringiest moment came in June 2000, when he joined Naked Jungle, a one-off adult version of kids’ TV favourite Jungle Run with nudists as contestants. Keith also appeared in the buff – and despite the programme airing on Channel 5 at 11pm on a Tuesday, it caused a media storm and attracted over two million viewers. He later described it as the “worst career move” of his “entire life”.
Now he’s back on C5 as a Celebrity Big Brother housemate – although he’s had previous reality TV experience, being the sixth contestant eliminated from ITV’s Dancing On Ice in 2013. He was originally due to take part two years earlier, until he injured himself in training.
Some might think Keith would be a peacekeeper in the CBB house, but he exclaims: “No, let them fight! Mediation is fantastic but it’s not my job to do it. I’ll probably end up watching it like a viewer, thinking, ‘Go for it!’.”
Keith, who will celebrate his 58th birthday on the show, isn’t nervous about what the experience might bring: “If it goes wrong then it’s not my fault, they booked me.”
But although he isn’t planning to be the resident entertainer, he does have one trick up his sleeve: “I do like playing jokes and I’ve got something, which, if it backfires on me I’ll be out next week!”
Keith was sad Cami left through the back door, for Katie to hound him and twist his words and opinions

Now I am confused about who “deserves” to win CBB. We didn’t like it when the bully won. We don’t like those slipping under the radar. We don’t like a victim or the sheep to win or the one we hate, but can’t stop watching. Anyone who arrives late hasn’t had the full ride. Guess the only one left is Uncle Keith. Of course he’s grumpy. It comes with age. Katie H just perfecting her grumpy skills early. She makes the most amazing grumpy old man faces I have ever seen

Agree…she did twist his words. Even though he nominated Cami…well he had to nominate someone like the rest of them…why was she picking on him for? She could’ve picked on Kav or Perez about it as well couldn’t she, since they nominated her as well? I think she feels threatened by Keith as he has a good chance of winning perhaps! Good on you Keith to stand up for yourself. Cheggers to win!
