Big Brother 1 winner Craig Phillips

Big Brother winner Craig Phillips has been named the show’s highest-earning housemate in The Sun’s ‘Reality Richest’ list.

The 42-year-old came 15th in a rundown of the fifty wealthiest reality TV stars published by the tabloid newspaper over the last fortnight.

Phillips is said to have amassed a £6.9million fortune since he triumphed in the first series of Big Brother in 2000, after establishing himself as a television DIY expert, with appearances in over 800 programmes.

He earned £800,000 from the publication of his autobiography in 2009, and maintains a property empire including a £675,000 penthouse in Liverpool.

Three other civilian Big Brother housemates featured on the list, with BB7’s Imogen Thomas charting at number 30 on £2.9million thanks to modelling contracts, TV appearances and endorsement deals.

Chantelle Houghton – who infamously took part in the fourth Celebrity series as a non-celebrity – is just behind her at 31, with two of her own reality TV series, a fitness DVD, an autobiography and a stint as the face of lingerie brand La Senza netting her £2.7million.

BB2 winner Brian Dowling came 35th, earning £2.5million from a string of TV presenting jobs – including £800,000 for his two years as the face of Big Brother on Channel 5.

However, the foursome are eclipsed by the late BB3 housemate Jade Goody, who was not on The Sun’s chart. Following her tragic death in 2009, she was reported to have had a personal wealth of over £8million.

Had she been included, she would have placed at number 13, between X Factor contestants JLS (£7.1million) and The Simple Life star Nicole Richie (£9million).

Elsewhere, the list includes five Celebrity Big Brother housemates who found fame on other shows beforehand – including Big Brother’s Bit On The Side presenters Rylan Clark and Luisa Zissman, said to be worth £1.4million and £2.6million respectively.

The full list of Big Brother housemates in The Sun’s Reality Richest are as follows:

15th: Craig Phillips (BB1) – £6.9million
26th: Amy Childs (CBB8) – £3.5million
28th: Jedward (CBB8) – £3million each
30th: Imogen Thomas (BB7) – £2.9million
31st: Chantelle Houghton (CBB4) – £2.7million
33rd: Luisa Zissman (CBB13) – £2.6million
35th: Brian Dowling (BB2) – £2.5million
42nd: Rylan Clark (CBB11) – £1.4million
44th: Sam Faiers (CBB13) – £1.2million

I’m very wary of these ‘fortune lists’. How can they possibly know what they have been paid for jobs, what they have invested their money in, what their expenditures are, what they have given to relatives, charity ect.

They don’t know at all. The fees they quoted for some celeb reality shows were interesting – Joey Essex on £40k for I’m a Celeb seemed a bargain compared to some of the quoted fees for Celebrity Big Brother. Also the finalists of Strictly were said to earn £200k when it’s been reported in the past they earn £70k if they make the final, though I guess that fee might include money from the tour too.
