CBB’s Kellie Maloney for C5 gender transition doc

Celebrity Big Brother 14 summer 2014 launch show - Kellie Maloney

Channel 5 has commissioned a one-off documentary following ex-Celebrity Big Brother housemate Kellie Maloney’s gender transition.

The boxing promoter – formerly known as Frank Maloney – joined the fourteenth series of CBB last summer, just weeks after her secret life as a woman was outed in the press.

Now Frankly Kellie Maloney: No Going Back will feature her journey from her time in the house up to her final gender reassignment surgery, which was completed in March.

C5 says the one-hour special – produced by Endemol subsidiary Initial, which also makes Celebrity Big Brother – will include intimate video diaries, candid interviews and never-before-seen footage of Kellie’s family life.

“For the first time in my life I can now truly accept who I am,” said Kellie. “By inviting the cameras in, I want to inspire others to come out and be proud of who they are, educate those unaware of gender transition issues and alleviate some of the negative stereotypes attached to the transgender community.

“At the end of the day, we are all just human beings and I hope that message comes across to viewers.”

No Going Back is the latest in a string of C5 programmes featuring CBB housemates. Other examples include When Paddy Met Sally, Speidi: Scandal, Secrets & Surgery! and Jim Davidson: At Least I’m Not Boring.

An airdate has yet to be confirmed.
