Deirdre Kelly, better known as ‘White Dee’, came to public prominence in the Channel 4 documentary Benefits Street. Critics have vilified her as the “patron saint of drug addicts and dropouts”, whereas fans see her as a working-class hero. Dee is a single mother to a son and a daughter.
Until five years ago, Deirdre worked as an administrator for Birmingham City Council, until it was claimed she was being convicted of stealing to fund her then-partner’s drug abuse.
Since then Dee received benefits from the government after claiming she could not work due to suffering from depression.
Since the success of Benefits Street, Dee has received offers from all over the world for appearances in modelling, newspaper columns, cooking, holidays, as well as other television reality shows.
Recently Dee travelled to Magaluf. This resulted in David Cameron personally ordering a probe into her finances after she was photographed enjoying a boozy holiday, despite being ‘too depressed’ to work. Dee no longer claims benefits.

Really liked dee at the beginning. Yes she’s down to earth but why is she following suit of the other hm?

does dee really need to act like the jale of the series and “victimise” Gary just because most of the other hm’s don’t like him??!
In the task she obviously named Gary because she didn’t want to get on the wrong side of any one else and knew Gary was the easy option.
She knew by naming Gary the other housemates would probably laugh and like her more.
It’s like she is dying for their approval.
NO matter what Gary has said or done people are forgetting he’s a old man.
Show Some effing respect.

I agree with both of you. I think there is a bit of an act going on, we’ll see who she really is within the next few weeks and again unfortunately I don’t think she’s at all as nice as she wants us to believe.
Does it matter why this awful woman stole the money from her employer? She is still a thief and scrounger. Maybe she isn’t on benefits now, but how much of the taxpayers money has this woman had because she was ‘depressed’?
Being on a documentary does not make a person a celebrity and she shouldn’t even be in there.
And please someone get her a bra.

Dee I am so disappointed in you! I thought you would bring laughter, compassion and calm to the house but instead you are a sheep who mocks those with difficulties. I thought you’d be more opiniated and speak out in the name of fairness, have you hell? I didn’t want you to be the mother of the house just a good down to earth, no nonsense person, alas you have let me down.

If I lost my job because I stole from my employer I would be ashamed, but it wouldn’t stop me looking for another job and I would be willing to do anything rather than sit on my arse all day.

Oh please people, I cannot believe she has fooled so many of you. It’s all an act she is a vile person underneath. She is a big fat slob that lies around all day spending your own hard earned cash. The day people get famous and classed as a “celebrity” for scrounging of the state is the day I want out of this country. Joke. Horrible bully not caring in the slightest!

Hello Jenny, normally would agree with your thoughts but must come out in favour of Tony Blair. He did good for Merseyside where I live and the effect is still having the effect (if you know what I mean). Cheers ………..

And whilst I abhor the fact that someone finds ‘fame’ they way she has. I am more ashamed at our society for giving her that notoriety.
She seems to speak sense.
She also claimed benefits illegally to fund her ‘then’ partners drug habit.

I don’t agree. Dee is showing a nasty side more and more. Made me laugh when she said she wants Rikki in the final and she will kick off if he goes – does she think she’ll stay to the end then?Not at the rate she’s going.

I am unsure about her comment after last nights eviction” bad luck Stephanie” was that because Gary stayed?
Is she actually siding with Stephanie and accepting how she spoke to Gary at noms?

I think she has shown momentary times of kindness, but has been unable to keep it going. Purely there to win the prize money. – ( I sincerely hope she doesn’t)
