Often referred to as ‘The Real Deal’ Evander is known for being a four-time world heavyweight boxing champion. On 28th June 1997, Mike Tyson bit off part of Evander’s ear during the famous ‘Bite Fight’ at the MGM Grand Las Vegas.
Evander took boxing lessons aged 8. He competed as amateur in the Golden Gloves competitions in the early 1980s. After winning a national Golden Gloves Championship in 1984, Holyfield made the U.S. Olympic team.
Representing his country at the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles, he experienced a great disappointment in the ring. He was disqualified during a semi-final match against Kevin Barry of New Zealand for hitting his opponent after a break, but Evander still ended up winning the bronze medal.
In 1990, he became the World Heavyweight Champion, defeating James ‘Buster’ Douglas, the holder of the WBA, IBF and WBC championship titles. Evander took out Douglas in only seven minutes.
Evander made over $230 million in the ring, giving millions to the church and to various causes he supported, including the Evander Holyfield Foundation.

I have nothing against gay people, I hate homophobic people. However, Evander was not saying “EW I HATE GAY PEOPLE” he was merely stating his beliefs. I understand because my father is also an American who was brought up a Christian and they have the same beliefs. They believe it’s unnatural to be homosexual and don’t agree with it; how ever, they don’t necessarily hate gay people. He is quiet, but he seems like a cool guy.
To an extent, thank goodness they pick and choose what appeals to them from the Bible, to disagree with. There would be, among other things, many eyeless people on the planet or people being stoned to death or crucified. It’s all utter bigoted ignorance. Why homosexual people have been left out of their Christian “kindness” is weird. 😉 @AM
