Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino is an American television personality. He has appeared on the MTV reality show Jersey Shore since 2009.
Mike was born in West New Brighton, Staten Island, New York, and grew up in Manalapan Township, New Jersey. Mike worked as an assistant manager of a fitness centre in Staten Island. When he was 25, he lost this job and began underwear modelling.
Mike made more than $5 million in 2010, the second highest of any other reality star after Kim Kardashian. This money was accrued through endorsements with Devotion Vodka and Reebok as well as a ghost-written autobiography, a rap song, a workout DVD, a vitamin line, a clothing line, and appearances including Jersey Shore and Dancing with the Stars.
In August 2011, Mike was offered a “substantial” sum of money by fashion retailer Abercrombie & Fitch not to wear the company’s clothes. A spokesman for the company explained that “Mr Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image.” In November 2011, Mike filed a lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch after they made shirts that read “The Fitchuation” and “GTL…You Know The Deal.”
On March 21, 2012, Mike confirmed that he had checked himself into rehab “to get control of a prescription medication problem.” He checked out of the Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah on April 4, 2012.
Mike explained that the situation worsened without him noticing, as at first he fooled himself into believing the painkillers actually gave him energy.
Mike said ‘I made a mistake picking a substance over what I would have chosen before – which was fitness.’
Poignantly, he said that he now “Wakes up every day with a smile.” and is, “Happy to be alive.”

Horror of horrors, he’s doing much better than people thought he would when he went in (personally, he’s been my favorite since day one). Last night on BOTS a guy in the audience told Emma that he may be the first American to win and she immediately yanked the mic away from him. Seems the polls are suggesting it, too. So it’s no surprise Brian made a nasty comment tonight… “Even if he served it on a plate, I don’t think I’d want a Situation sandwich”. Got news for ya, Brian, Mike’s been the primary chef for weeks and most of them would have starved if it weren’t for him. He’s spent so much time in the kitchen, in fact, I don’t understand how he’s been clumped with Harvey and Ashley. Harvey can’t go anywhere or do anything without Ashley following behind like a little puppy, but Mike is usually seen either in the kitchen or in the smoking area socializing with everyone. Sure, the three of them have called themselves ‘HAM’, but it’s not like they are inseparable, at least on Mike’s part. I think he stands a very good chance of winning… especially since most of the voters are younger viewers… sorry Julian and Martin (I hope!!).
