Big Brother Canada goes sci-fi with ‘Odyssey’ house – pictures
The Big Brother Canada house has been transformed into a spaceship named the ‘BBCAN Odyssey’ after producers gave it a sci-fi makeover for season five.
The new abode has the same layout and design blueprint as last year’s casino-like ‘BBCAN Grand’, with certain features – such as the curved roof in the main area – remaining the same.
However, the decor has been refreshed for the new series, with metallic silver walls and harsh white lighting giving the impression that the houseguests are living in a spaceship.
Upstairs, the Head of Household suite has been recoloured in blue and orange. Meanwhile, the regular bedrooms (or ‘hibernation pods’) are almost identical to last year, with new wallpaper – but the same circular light fittings.
Downstairs, the kitchen still has stone-effect walls and a curved roof decoration. The backyard is covered in a hexagonal pattern, while the outdoor hot tub area resembles a starscape.
The lounge has a long white sofas and a ‘video wall’, showing a colourful mosaic design by default. The ‘High Roller Room’ is now ‘The Bridge’; this is again where the HoH will make their nominations.
The biggest change is in the Have Not room, which is the only area not to follow the intergalactic design. Instead, it is a prehistoric cave dominated by a giant fossil, ensuring its inhabitants will not be sleeping comfortably.
To match the new house, the studio set – where Arisa Cox will host the live eviction shows – has been given its biggest overhaul since the show’s debut.
Instead of a house facade, it is now the launchpad for a giant rocket, representing the houseguests travelling to and from the spaceship.
The new house and set tie in with the ‘time travel’ theme for the new season, which will also be incorporated in to the twists.
Last week, bosses revealed the sixteen houseguests taking part, with eight newbies being joined by eight returning ‘second chance’ players who are supposedly “taking a trip to the future” so they can “rewrite the past”.
Arisa has hinted that there will be further time travel twists, telling ET Canada: “We try to do it differently every single year, but this season is all about transcending time and space. That’s what the BBCAN Odyssey is all about. Expect that that will play in to some of the twists coming this season.”
Big Brother Canada 5 premieres on Wednesday at 9pm ET/PT on Global.
