Big Brother Australia seems to be back on the agenda at Channel Nine, with bosses reportedly in preliminary talks for a new series in 2016 after Celebrity Apprentice proved a ratings flop.

BB has been off air Down Under since the last series suffered a slump in viewing figures – although bosses begun casting for a Celebrity version that was later abandoned.

Instead, Nine revived Celebrity Apprentice – with BBAU’s series ten winner Tim Dormer as a contestant – but it has performed even worse, with its opening episode attracting just 566,000 viewers, less than half the number BB launched with in 2014.

Now, according to, “early conversations” are taking place between Nine and production company Endemol Shine about bringing Big Brother back next year.

“Celebrity Apprentice hasn’t worked — it’s flat as a tack,” the publication’s source said. “Now Nine is thinking about reviving Big Brother for its fourth quarter schedule in 2016.”

In August, Nine’s programming boss Andrew Backwell insisted the broadcaster has not yet swung  onthe axe Big Brother despite its recent absence from screens. “We have no plans to bring it back, it is however still in consideration so we’re certainly not ruling it out,” he said.

Dreamworld theme park recently denied claims that the BBAU house had been dismantled, although it was stripped of furniture and fittings that were later sold in an online auction.
