Channel 5 has confirmed that the live final of Big Brother 2017 will take place on Friday 28th July – four days after rival show Love Island comes to an end.

The series eighteen winner will be crowned by host Emma Willis during a 105-minute live show at 9.00pm on the 28th, followed by a Bit On The Side wrap party with Rylan Clark-Neal at 10.45pm.

This means that the current run will be the first since 2014 not to have a shortened length, running for a total of 54 days – four more than last year.

While press rumours had suggested that the Big Brother final would clash with the conclusion of Love Island, ITV2 also confirmed today that its hit dating format will end on Monday 24th July – four days before BB.

The two shows are engaged in a ratings war, with BB securing early victory when their launches went head-to-head – but its figures have since collapsed below seven figures, while Love Island has attracted record numbers of up to 2.2million.

Meanwhile, Channel 5’s latest finalised listings reveal that its erratic scheduling of this summer’s Big Brother will continue throughout its final week.

The highlights episode on Sunday 23rd July will air at the earlier time of 8.00pm – so it will have to be censored for pre-watershed audiences.

Conversely, the last two highlights episodes of the series, on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th, go out at the later time of 10.30pm.

Celebrity Big Brother is due to return for its milestone 20th edition the week after the ‘civilian’ version ends, although a launch date is yet to be announced.
