Big Brother 2016 has just managed to top last year’s Timebomb series in the overnight ratings after last night’s final achieved decent numbers.

The 100-minute live show, which saw Jason Burrill beat Hughie Maughan to be crowned champion, was watched by 1.5million viewers (8.6%, including +1).

It was the second highest rating episode of the series, coming in just 100,000 viewers below the launch show. It was also up 220,000 on last year’s final.

The stats mean that, overall, the latest series has just managed to top Timebomb in the overnights (which are released the day after broadcast).

The overnight series average for Big Brother 2016 is 1.14million viewers – just 10,000 higher than Timebomb’s 1.13million.

However, Channel 5 is likely to be happy with the figures given that this year’s series faced stiff competition from Euro 2016 and ITV2’s Love Island, which unexpectedly doubled its ratings for its recent run.

This is evidenced in the consolidated or ‘official’ ratings, which account for recorded or repeat viewing up to 7 days after broadcast.

Although the overnights remained flat, Big Brother 2016’s official series average is currently a whopping 200,000 viewers up on Timebomb, with nine days’ worth of data still yet to be released.

I think this will go down as the most shallow and boring series of BB. Too many stupid, dull, immature, self-centred housemates. The only actual conversation I can remember anyone having, and only because it was so thick, was “Napoleon ice cream”.
